You are free to see the doctor or nurse of your choice, but it is helpful to continue follow up for ongoing health concerns with the same clinician where possible.
No appointments are required in the mornings. We run a walk-in surgery between 8.15 am and 10.15 am. Please come early to ensure the doctor of your choice is still available to see you. If you would prefer a pre-bookable morning appointment these are available.
Afternoon appointments are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and we run an evening surgery between 6.30 pm and 8.00 pm every Tuesday.
Appointments can be made online, or by contacting reception by phone or in person after 11.00 am Monday - Friday. Please bear in mind that a routine appointment is ten minutes long and for one patient only. If you have a lot to discuss with your GP please ask the receptionist about booking a longer / double appointment time.
Emergency appointments are offered where someone is thought to have become acutely unwell and cannot wait for review until the following day. Please request these only where such rules apply as they have a knock-on effect on surgeries and can lead to delay for other patients who have taken the time to book their appointments in advance.
Morning and afternoon surgeries are all by appointment only.
Our nursing team offer general nursing services and are actively involved in chronic disease management.
Please make an appointment with the nurse rather than the doctor for:
- Routine Blood Pressure Checks
- Routine Asthma Reviews
- Routine Contraceptive Pill Checks
- Contraceptive Injections
- Coil Checks
- Well Man / Woman Checks
- New Patient Checks
- Routine Smear Tests
- Travel Advice and Vaccinations
Please contact reception to book an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses.
Appointments Outside of Usual Surgery Hours
The GP Extended Access Service is now offering appointments with a GP or Nurse for any patient registered within the Wigan Borough out of normal surgery hours. These surgeries run from 6.30 pm -8.00 pm on weekdays and from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm on weekends and bank holidays. To make an appointment call 01942 482848.
We do not routinely offer telephone consultations as in most cases we prefer that patients are seen. If you have a specific query please contact reception. If this is an urgent query it will be passed on to the duty doctor or nurse, and not necessarily the doctor who usually deals with you, to ensure that you have a reply the same day. For less urgent queries, your usual doctor will be informed but due to workload they may not be able to answer your query the same day. They will try and speak with you after surgery should this be required, or in some cases a simple message may be passed back to patients by reception staff. If the query is urgent please explain this to the reception staff so that your call can be dealt with promptly. Please do not repeatedly phone reception once a message had been left for the doctors' attention as this blocks the phone lines and will not speed up the response time for your query.
For those patients who struggle with English we have an international telephone interpreter service. If you or a relative feel that you will struggle to communicate with the doctors or nurses looking after you due to difficulties with English please let the reception staff know prior to your appointment so that an interpreter can be arranged for your consultation.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
